Boeing Worker Critically Injured After Plant Fall
A Boeing employee was critically injured on March 18 in North Charleston after falling from a rig. According to the Associated Press, the fall happened at around 11:15 p.m. Officials with Boeing released the following statement following the accident: A Boeing teammate was injured when he fell from a mobile platform in Composite Fabrication. First Responders and Boeing EMS were on the scene immediately, and the teammate was taken to the hospital and admitted for treatment and observation. In light of privacy rights for our teammates, we do not comment on their medical status. The safety and well being of our teammates is a top priority of Boeing South Carolina. In keeping with our comprehensive safety plan and internal processes, we are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and any corrective actions that might be required. One Man Dies, Another Injured in Catawba Paper Plant Accident
York County officials said that one person died and another person was injured in an accident at a paper plant on January 22. The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. at the Resolute Forest Products plant in Catawba. County emergency management director Cotton Howell said two employees climbed into an old tank outside the main production area to do some maintenance work. Howell said it is possible that some type of chemical leaked into the tank. One of the workers was removed from the tank and was treated for injuries. The other person died at the scene. The plant employs about 700 people and makes commercial printing papers and market pulp, according to the Associated Press. The AP reported that 39-year-old Samir Storey, of Monroe, North Carolina died in the accident. The name of the injury victim has not been released. Piedmont Man Dies in Metal Stamping Plant
A Piedmont man died on January 22 after falling into a metal stamping machine at a Stanco plant in Williamston. According to the Anderson Independent Mail, 62-year-old metal worker Kendall Ray Collier died of head injury during the accident, which happened shortly after 9 a.m. Officials from the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration have launched an investigation into the accident. State regulators will look for any violation of workplace rules and regulations and issue a determination, which could take up to two months, agency representative Lesia Kudelka said. Stanco has three plants nationally with 167 employees and does metal fabrication, stamping and welding. The company has experienced seven recorded safety violations, three serious, at its New Mexico and Michigan plants from 2010 to 2012, the Independent Mail reported.
